'Looked comfortable soaking up our fruitless attacks' = true

'West Ham scored a lucky goal' = true

'Huddersfield were lucky to have survived for so long against a never-ending onslaught' also = true

'Huddersfield were lucky to get away with only losing 2-0' also = true.

Sometimes its just a matter of spin.

I guarantee you weren't thinking that on 70 mins when Huddersfield looked extremely comfortable soaking up our fruitless attacks.

We score a fluke and suddenly it was 'comfortable'.

Antonio was absolutely superb and good considering we still have Arnie and Lanzini to come back in.

I just hope that Bilic saw that we're a much better team without Noble in it.

I wouldn't say we played that well last night but we were a different class to them. Last night they looked championship standard. That said the goal came just at the right time as we had pretty much run out of ideas by then and the frustration in the crowd and on the pitch was growing.

Good to see a lot of effort, especially first half, which shows that the players were playing for Bilic so no evidence that he has "lost the dressing room".

Step in the right direction, generally looked up for it.

Nervous-looking in the final third though compounded by the fact that the goal scorers were not necessarily where you score goals a lot of the time.

Carroll had them on their heels most of the night but when he is able to play, probably good to keep him in the centre. Same with Hernandez.

Probably the best midfield two for the way we played. As it was bypassed generally and it got us a clean sheet.

Interesting selections for next game and whenever Lanzini's back.

What do you want - a fucking badge? Tosser.

We won last night because Carroll and Antonio were playing, the team showed more intensity (that wasn't difficult) and Huddersfield, despite their good start to the season, are shite.

It had nothing to do with any great Bilic tactical masterplan because he doesn't have one, and keeps fucking about with his formations to the frustration of many of us.

So let's see how we get on against a decent side before getting too excited.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Huddersfield - Official Match Thread FT 2-0
We were as dominant in the first half as I have seen us in years. Yes, we didn't score but with a little bit of luck we could easily have gone in 3-0 up.

Huddersfield struggled to get out of their own half and the high press on their goalkeeper and defence when the keeper had the ball meant that they could not play out from the back the way they wanted to. They were forced every time to play the ball out to a defender who, faced with all his passing options closed down, would pass it back to the goalkeeper who would lump it forward where we would gobble it up.

Huddersfield offered no threat at all in the first half and we were dominant in every area of the pitch. It surprised me to see that the stats showed that they had more possession than us but I guess that is one of the misleading things about stats. Almost all of their possession was in the 10 meters immediately in front of their goal where they could not possibly hurt us.

From our point of view, the big difference that Carrol made was that our midfield and defence always had an out ball. If there was nothign on short then they could lump it up front and assume that Carrol was going to win the ball in the air - which he did almost without exception in the first half. Huddersfield simply had no idea how to deal with him and they had no such option in their own team which meant that they were always under pressure and never able to play their own football.

In the second half when Carrol tired Huddersfield came back into the game a bit but they still never really looked like threatening us. It seems ironic to me that we played so well in the first half and scored nothign and much worse in the second but we scored two.

I am not sure if Huddersfield or a shit team or we just made them look like a shit team - I guess time will tell.

Well done to everyone for last night's performance. It was exactly what we needed to kick-start the season and if we can play with the intensity of the first half in every match then we are not going to struggle this season.

COYI.

yes, it was direct a lot of the time last night but give me that over the fucking boreathon, tippy tappy 4-5-1 shit that clearly doesn't suit our current personnel. I want the team at it and looking like they're enjoying, and for the most part they did last night

Zico, a very good analysis and some points that i thought as i watched it, the Hernandez thing i see and you're right. if you don't do it together then you get pulled apart.

Everyone on here saying how Zabalettas legs have gone, fuck me i reckon there are more than one or two his age who would love to have that fitness, he was a machine.

I thought Antonio was brilliant last night and is sort of getting overlooked as that's what we expect from him, so good to see how SLAV has brought him on and let him mature.

I like what Slav did for Rice as well, quality of a man and good management.

I must admit i was surprised when he took off Hernandez for Ayew but as we say it paid off, however if it had gone the other way then his head may have rolled for that chance. I am pleased he took Carroll off as well, he is a gem for us and is the old question of if only.....

A dogged eprfomance last night which i think until we scored the players may have been a bit dispondent that the crowd and team were getting anxious as we hadn't put the chance away. But they gritted it out.

A team that played for themselves and the manager last night.

Another note i must say, Fonte. I have never rated him since he has came to us but i must say i was very impressed last night.

Nothing to moan about from my view.

Roll on saturday

If Noble can get his legs back (and that's an IF), he'll do well supplying Chicharito with balls to run onto.

Not holding my breath on this, mind.

Better without Noble? Kouyate and Obiang didnt pick a pass or put their foot on the ball all night, guiless.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Huddersfield - Official Match Thread FT 2-0
Wasn't a bad performance considering the pressure both players and manager were under. Like others I thought the Hernandez substitution was strange but it went for him on this occasion. Defended quite well with Collins and Zab the pick and Crezzwell (according to the commentator) put in a shift. Going forward Andy was a handful and Antonio as always giving 110%.

My only concerns were that in the first half Hernandez and Zab were running their bollocks off to press high but others didn't. On a couple of occasions Hernandez put his hands out as if to say "come on then back me up". Surely you either press as a team or keep shape as a team. Got away with it last night but better teams may have passed the ball between the lines and given us a problem.

There was also a period of 10 minutes or so second half when we looked a bot shaky just after our second goal. Huddersfield hit the bar and if that goes in the last few minutes would have been tense,.

However a wins a win and a clean sheet to boot. Plenty of talent for the forward positions so it will be interesting to see if Slav can keep them all happy.
